Stop trusting in mere humans,
who have but a breath in their nostrils.
    Why hold them in esteem?
Isaiah 2:22

We live in a world where it seems that everybody has something to say. Social media platforms have created an ever present audience for absolutely anybody to be a pundit on whatever topic they desire at any time of the day or night. There are so many voices in the atmosphere seeking to have us subscribe to the channels they have created for their words to flow into our lives. Likewise, in our personal lives, we have people all around us and they each have words that touch us and affect us whether we realize it or not. My encouragement today is simply a reminder that words carry the power of life and death (Proverbs 18:21).
The people that we surround ourselves with and the information channels we subscribe to are either giving us more life, or sucking the life out of us (John 10:10, Proverbs 16:24, Proverbs 18:6-8). It is incumbent upon each of us to be cognizant and to choose to have and keep people in our lives that we can trust to have God's word in their words for and about us. We cannot trust people to give us life, no matter their stature or station in life, if their words do not represent the word of God. We have the tendency to be drawn in by people who use flattering words, because who doesn't like a kind word to make us feel good? We like to hear words that sound positive, complimentary, and uplifting. But it is important to know God's word for ourselves so that we can detect the flaws in the flattery coming our way (Psalm 8:5-9).
If someone is flooding your life with sweetly spoken words that contradict the truth or undermine the character of God's word, no matter who they are or appear to be, you would be wise to restrict them from having access to your spirit (Acts 10:34, Psalm 1:1) I encourage you to meditate on Deuteronomy 30:14-10 AMP today, and be reminded of the power that words and the personal influence of people we invite or allow to speak into our lives to affect our choice to live or die according to God.

Be Blessed!
